Kelly and I have known one another a long time…since she was a teen and well, I was already an adult. I have had the pleasure to walk with her through college, graduate school, careers and relationships with other stylists. I recently had the pleasure of taking the long tresses that she’s been known for, to a fresh new look that allowed her natural curls to be the star.
Kelly has always had long hair. Well, there was that one time when she moved to New York and came home to Atlanta with a short bob. It was new to her and absolutely refreshing. I liked it and so did she. But…we both LOVED it once I put my “umph” in it!
That bob made it’s grand appearance at my salon about 12 years ago.
But of course because of these growing hands, we ended up with the long tresses yet again. The pandemic followed by a new job made it difficult for Kelly and I to connect via the appointment book, so she was forced to find a stylist who was closer in proximity and had more availability. Unfortunately, her long tresses did not stand up against the challenging heat of the ever popular“silk press” and her hair ended up lifeless, stringy and without any of her natural volume or waves.
One night I saw a post of her proudly displaying the large package of hair products that had just been delivered. This behavior was out of the norm because she had always relied on a weekly hair appointment. That’s where I had to draw the line…with a quick text.
Me: Ma’am we need to talk about your hair! I’m feeling like you live in NYC!
We text for about 45 minutes which ended with her waking up her husband to whisper to him, “I talked to Tracy and she is going to help me with my hair”
From there, we addressed inflammation with the Plexus Triplex System because it was causing thinning at her temples. We treated her hair with an Olaplex Treatment and steam for a couple visits because our goal was to prevent as much breakage as possible while allowing the new growth to thrive as we gradually trim off the damaged hair.
Then one night, I received the text…
Kelly: Tracayyyyyyy, I’m ready to cut my hair!
Me: Let’s Do it!
Here is a day in the life of Kelly and Tracy.
